S3P4 – Established by God

1 Pet 5:10

After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace [who imparts His blessing and favor], who called you to His own eternal glory in Christ, will Himself complete, confirm, strengthen, and establish you [making you what you ought to be].

Θεμελιωσει·

When a new home is built, it is not necessarily completed at the end of the construction phase.  There will be a time of settling caused by shifting of the soil beneath the foundation.  This is not a perpetual process and eventually comes to completion.  It is then that the building rests firmly on its foundation.  Today’s word paints such an architectural image for us.

This word is used in Hebrews 1:10, where the Father speak of Jesus laying the foundation of the earth in the beginning.  That is Christ establishing the physical world.  In the same manner, God establishes us as we go through sanctification.  The same way He formed the world, He is forming us now through our trials.  The same way He steadies the pillars of the earth, he will fortify us.

God is our rock and our foundation.  He is the most solid foundation.  The process of sanctification establishes us on that rock.  If we do not want to be blown about when the winds kick up, we must seek for Him to further establish us.  If we do not want to be washed away by the waves, we must seek for Him to further establish us.  If we do not want to melt during tumultuous times, we must seek for Him to further establish us.  Let us have courage and welcome the trials that will further establish us on the rock.
