S9P5 – A new way of life: a guaranteed hope
Hebrews 10:23
Let us seize and hold tightly the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is reliable and trustworthy and faithful [to His word]
When we come to a saving knowledge of Christ, we gain the hope of eternal life with God in His kingdom. That hope means that although the body may die, we live forever. Our souls will not perish. We will exist perpetually in a place that God has prepared for us. This hope to which we cling is what gets us through this life and its troubles, because we know that the trials before us are but a vapor in light of our everlasting existence.
This verse tells us that this hope is no pipe dream. We do not hope for eternity with God the way some hope to win the lottery or become famous. The end of our hope is not unknown. It is guaranteed. Our hoping is merely a waiting for the result that God has promised, and He is no man that He should lie. [Numbers 23:19] He is faithful to deliver on his promise. The way we rely on his endless love and daily renewed mercy, that is how we are to rely on our great hope.
If we indeed believe that God is true to His word and unable to go back on His promises, then we will hold on to our confession of this hope just as faithfully. In fact, as life’s trials come our way, our grip on that confession of hope should be more and more unyielding. This hope is great enough to make any hardship in this world too small to make us falter. Our footing is secure on the most reliable foundation, and that rock is immovable. Father, remind us that our attitude toward the hope we have in You should be a direct reflection of your guarantee of that hope, faithfully unwavering.
