S33P5 – The fruit of trust in God: a heavenly guard

Psa. 91:9‭-‬11
Because you have made the Lord, my refuge, even the Most High, your dwelling place, no evil will befall you, nor will any plague come near your tent. For He will command His angels in regard to you, to protect and defend and guard you in all your ways.

The world is full of VIPs. These people are well known to a majority and usually admired or envied for a number of reasons. The status of VIP can come from wealth, power, fame or just personal connections. Something many VIPs have in common is the presence of security. Because of their status, they may feel that there are targets on their backs. In many instances, the target certainly exists. It might not be safe to travel among the general public without some type of protection when you are a high-profile individual. What we see is that this elevated status comes with potential problems that create the need for added security. When we consider our current spiritual status as children of God, we have the same concern. There are targets on our backs, and we require additional security. Luckily, our Father in heaven guarantees that we receive just that.

The enemy desires that every creature made in the image of God should perish and be destroyed along with him. However, he has an additional agenda when it comes to those of us who share the good news of Jesus Christ. Since we are not simply traveling down the road to destruction on our own, and since we are trying to lead others to salvation with us, his attacks are targeted and specific. On our own, we would succumb to each attack. We need help to make it through these battles. Angels are not fictional creatures that we invent to feel a little safer. They are real heavenly bodies created by God and assigned by him to guard us. Imagine that the God who created all things loves us enough to send his heavenly angels to fight on our behalf. This is happening all around us even in this moment. We may not be able to see it, but this added security is real and effective.

How awesome it would be if God were to let us see the battles in the heavenlies being waged for our good! We are quick to pray for God to give us strength and protection, but I wonder whether we are quick to pray for God to equip his heavenly soldiers as they come to our aid. Let us ask God corporately to continue to strengthen the heavenly army that contends for us. Let us pray into those battles even though we cannot see them or hear them. There is an incredible war going on all around us, but we need not fear it. Our side is winning, and God’s word gives us the guarantee. When we struggle with the battles that come upon us, let us remember to pray for the angelic host that contends victoriously for us. Father, thank You for sending your angels to wage war on our behalf, and remind us to pray for their strength in battle.
