S132P2 – Patterns in Exodus: death to the chosen
Exo. 1:15-16
Then the king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives, of whom the name of one was Shiphrah and the name of the other Puah; and he said, “When you do the duties of a midwife for the Hebrew women, and see them on the birthstools, if it is a son, then you shall kill him; but if it is a daughter, then she shall live.”
I have visited nations where voluntarily speaking about the Lord if not asked is legally punishable. I wondered how it could be that just the mention of the name of the Lord could cause such hatred. We might have opposition to our faith in this land, but we typically do not deal with anti-christian rule of law that is so extreme. I thought for so long that this really was about hatred. I thought it was about those in authority not wanting their authority questioned or not wanting to bow to a higher authority, namely the Lord. I realize now that this is much more about fear. The movement to quiet the tongues of the sons of God is a movement to keep people in their state of death because worldly authority fears losing its control once people come alive.
Earthly leaders have tried to put God’s chosen people on the chopping block many times throughout history. I speak of the world’s attempts to disarm by death both Jews and Christians, those in the vine as well as those grafted in. This is a spiritually concerted effort aimed at eradicating not God’s people but God’s strength as shown through his people. This is all about the fear of losing power and control. The Lord offers a freedom that no earthly government or false religion can offer. It presents the people with the truth, which changes allegiances and awakens the sleeping sheep who have fallen for that which is less than the truth. The king of Egypt and so many other rulers throughout history simply could not let God be in control of their people.
There is nothing new under the sun. The tactics utilized by the king of Egypt have been repeated in different ways by so many who also feared God being in control. These individuals and organized groups do not want to lose what they have gained by their positions. The move of the Spirit and the freedom offered by the Lord are an affront to those positions only because those in power have not understood how to be proper stewards of that power. As long as those who rule over us are enemies of the Lord, we can expect them to work toward the death of our faith. Father, guard us during this spiritual battle for control and power, and raise up mighty people of God to rule over us.
