S137P10 – Psalms of promise: He knows you

Psa. 139:13-16

For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.  I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.  My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth.  Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.

We are able to know people on many different levels.  We might say that we know our various public leaders because they are public figures who are covered often in the press.  We get to see the decisions they make, and we hear the words they speak, so that gives us insight into who they are.  Other public figures such as celebrities and athletes allow us the same opportunity to get to know them.  Yet, there is quite a difference between this level of knowledge and the knowledge we get from having a real relationship with someone.  We might know about these people, but we certainly do not know them, and they do not know us.  Our knowledge of them is rather superficial and often is be based on assumptions;  there is simply too much distance between them and us.

Some people think that their relationship with God operates this same way.  After all, He is so big, and He is in charge of so much, and there are millions of other people and issues vying for his attention.  On top of that, who of us has ever had an audible conversation with him?  We pray, and we wait for answers, but can we say that we speak with him often?  It is easy to feel like He is too distant to know us, but the truth is that He has known us forever.  He is the one who put us together.  He has taken each piece and knitted them into a life.  He has organized these days, and He knows us better than we even know ourselves.  He is simultaneously far away yet closer than anyone we know.

If you ever feel like the Lord does not know you, like you have been passed over or forgotten, shake from yourself that terrible lie.  Its only purpose is to place distance between you and your Creator, but there is no distance between him and those who have called on him for salvation.  In fact, it is his Spirit who resides within us.  Of course He knows the ones in whom He resides.  Of course He knows the ones He created for his purposes.  He is that attentive, and we are that valuable.  Let us seek to know him just as He knows us.  Father, how amazing it is that You know everything about us and that You make a way for us to know You as well.
