S144P4 – When worlds collide: no plan thwarted

Exo. 14:27-29

So Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to its normal course when the morning appeared.  And as the Egyptians fled into it, the LORD threw the Egyptians into the midst of the sea.  The waters returned and covered the chariots and the horsemen; of all the host of Pharaoh that had followed them into the sea, not one of them remained.  But the people of Israel walked on dry ground through the sea, the waters being a wall to them on their right hand and on their left.

The scene looks bleak.  The poor, huddled masses of Israelites are headed straight for what seems like a certain trap.  The Egyptians who promised to let them go are now biting at their heels.  With horses and chariots, they are approaching much faster than the Israelites can flee.  The sea before them looks like certain death, but God will take that sea and make it their lifeline. The Egyptians watched the Israelites go through on dry land, and they followed.  They might have felt secure for a time, but that did not last.  As God frustrated their progress, they began to fear the worst.  That sea would turn out to be a death trap not for the prey but for the predators.

We all fight God at one time or another.  Even as Christians who desire to do his will, we will try to fight him on some things.  We should be wise enough to know that He will accomplish his will.  The Lord wanted to save his people and continue what would be their legacy leading to Messiah.  No power on Earth would stop that.  Pharaoh and his army certainly were formidable in that place and time.  No one would have bet against them in this fight.  Yet, we see what the outcome was.  Just like the Israelites, we are God’s chosen people who serve a purpose for him.  The enemy may try to come against us and stop that plan, but he will not succeed.

Many of life’s fears are the result of the unknown.  Many of the Israelites thought that their time was up, and they made this clear to Moses.  Regardless of whether death or captivity seemed imminent, neither option would have been palatable.  Freedom was so clear yet so far.  Fear set in when facing this unknown, but we know better.  We do not need to know what will come.  All we need to know is that God’s will is certain.  Whatever plans or purposes He has determined for us, they will come to pass.  Father, let your Spirit remind us daily that the enemy’s plans for our demise have no consequence when compared to your plans for our prosperity.
