S155P2 – Certainty in an uncertain world: moment of truth
2 Cor. 5:6-10
So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight. Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord. So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.
Living in this world as a Christian can move us to feel many different things. When we encounter someone who is lost, we feel compassion, and we want them to meet our Lord. When we encounter those who want to deceive others, we understand that they are deceived as well, but we might feel anger toward them for their work. When the world treats us the way it treated Christ, we might find it difficult to pray for our enemies. When people try to convince others that our God is not the one true God or that He does not exist, we might feel frustration or offense because we know the truth. This is what it is to be faced with such opposition when trying to share the truth with a world that needs it.
The world tries to trample on the Father, Son and Spirit every day in this order of things. When we hear someone use the Lord’s name as a curse word and we wish that they knew what they were saying, the truth is that they one day will know. When when we see people pretend that God is nothing and we wish that they knew who He is, the truth is that they will know one day. There will be a time of judgment for all, and every way man has slighted the Lord will be addressed. That time of judgment will not look the same for all, but all will have the same knowledge in the end. All will know that God is real, that his word always will be truth, and that He has judged rightly the hearts of all.
We never have to worry about God not getting the honor and respect He deserves. We never have to worry about the Lord having to brush aside offense and just deal with it. Every wrong against him will be righted, and it will be done justly. This is why we never need concern ourselves with avenging him. He will avenge himself. Each of us will experience that moment of complete revelation of truth. Each of us will stand before the Lord and face him. Each of us is responsible to pursue him in preparation for that day because the truth will not wait or remain hidden for anyone. Father, we look forward to the day when the truth is revealed for all to see, when no one can deny You ever again.
