S189P6 – The man David: a life ordained
Acts 13:20-24
After that He gave them judges for about four hundred and fifty years, until Samuel the prophet. And afterward they asked for a king; so God gave them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years. And when He had removed him, He raised up for them David as king, to whom also He gave testimony and said, “I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My own heart, who will do all My will.” From this man’s seed, according to the promise, God raised up for Israel a Savior—Jesus— after John had first preached, before His coming, the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.
From the very start, the trip seemed like it would never happen. Getting four people to agree on when to go and how long to stay was the first hurdle. Then we had to find the right priced flights, agree on where to stay, and arrange transportation to and from the airports. One would not think it, but it was quite a challenge to get us all to agree on all of this. Once we arrived, new logistical challenges emerged, and we spent most of the week seeking God for purpose during our stay. Then, the day before we left, when we really wanted to hear from God, He sent a saint to a rental car office to deliver to us a most surprising prophetic word. That was when we knew that God had orchestrated all of that for a reason.
This passage does not give a history of events that just happened to occur by chance. These are events planned by God, and the life of David gives us a hint about God’s plans. What He ordains, He will bring to pass. The Father wanted David to become king as part of the plan to legitimize the arrival of Messiah through his people Israel. David was not born of royalty, and his path to the throne was rather unorthodox. Not only that, his life hung in the balance more than once and for more than just a moment. A man purposed to bring down David, but the Father purposed to raise him up. No hatred, no anger, no fear, no jealousy would prevent David from being the king God meant for him to be.
On the surface, you might be nothing like David, not a resemblance of him in the least. Beyond the surface, you are no different than David at all. God has plans and a purpose for you, and no one can keep them from coming to pass. You might not know what they are, and they might be completely unpredictable from your current standpoint, but there is greatness ahead. Pray into the coming unknown that has been known and intended by God since before time began. Seek his revelation of what is ahead and what you need to do to prepare to fulfill your part. Father, thank You for making us for a purpose, and have your plans unfold before us even today.
