S225P7 – Our daily encouragement: mysteries awaiting revelation
Jer. 33:1-3
Moreover the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah a second time, while he was still shut up in the court of the prison, saying, “Thus says the Lord who made it, the Lord who formed it to establish it: ‘Call to me and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’”
The following that he had built over his career of teaching and writing was the result of his being seen as the brightest mind in his field. He had shared many new theories and discoveries with his students and colleagues, but there always was more he was discovering and figuring out. Each time he presented a published work, his admirers packed the auditorium to find out what there was to learn from him. He saw things in a different way, and they wanted to see them that way as well. Listening to him speak was really about getting in his head, hearing his thoughts, and gaining some of his knowledge. Little by little, every time he wrote or spoke, he was revealing one more mystery after another.
God had promised something to Jeremiah that seemed impossible. It was not the first time and would not be the last time in the scriptures that this situation would arise. Jesus also promised his disciples certain future events which seemed like impossibilities to them. His position was no different from the Father’s in that He knew that such things would come. The mind of man certainly responds to such promises by wondering how they can be when current circumstances seem to dictate a much different result. Jeremiah was awaiting God’s promise of restoring his people while he himself was locked up. The future looked bleak, but God doubled down on his promise. Not only would He bring forth what He had said, but He would reveal many great and mighty things to his prophet.
The Lord knows so much more than we do, but He is not like the proud man who hoards his knowledge to keep his advantage. God actually wants to share with us the incredible things He knows that we have yet to see. We can look at the act of trusting in God as a way to simply maintain in this life, a way to have our needs met without fireworks and fanfare. Trusting in God, however, is much greater than that. We should expect more than our needs being met. We should expect to learn and experience great and amazing things through God. He wants to share with us what we do not know and could not imagine, and He wants us to seek those great things with faith. Father, thank You for going beyond simply meeting our needs, for also sharing with us your awesome thoughts and revealing to us your incredible works.
